Lady Gaga MAC Swatch on Lips

This is just a quick post so you can see what the Gaga lipstick looks like against my skintone. It actually comes out looking more lavender than it does in the tube. I'm not sure if it looks good or not, it kinda makes me look dead....is it just me? What do you guys think?

P.S. This is my makeup from earlier today...lasted pretty well huh? :P

Celebrity Inspired FOTD: Kristen Stewart

This look was inspired by Kristen Stewart's makeup from her upcoming movie, "The Runaways". The fabulous and very sweet Fashionista91 sent me a link to this makeup tutorial on Youtube, explaining the steps to get this look. I thought this look was very simple but edgy and decided to try it out today.

It's not quite as dramatic on me because you can't see my upper eyeliner unless I close my eyes (damn monolids!) I guess this makes it a little more wearable though on a daily basis

Here is the video that inspired this look:

This look was very easy to achieve and used minimal products, I pretty much just used my NYX Palette that I got recently (Jazz Night), black eyeliner (Loreal Infallible in Carbon Black) and a light brown lipstick (Rimmel Lasting Finish in Paradise)

Hope you like it! I think I will add more celebrity inspired looks, it was fun trying to recreate this look!

The Body Shop & MAC Lady Gaga Lipstick

So today during my break between classes I decided to waste time at the mall. Dangerous territory, let me tell you!  I checked out Forever 21's new makeup line, and unfortunately nothing really appealed to me, which is surprising because I love F21. I stopped in a couple more stores and then went to the Body Shop to check out their makeup. They were having  two great sales on their skincare lines, Buy 1 Get 1 Free and then another  that was 3 items for $20. Unfortunately the line that was having  the 3 for $20 sale wasn't for my skin type...so I checked out the other one. The sales associate told me about their Aloe Vera Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin. I didn't realize until recently that my skin is sensitive but lately I have noticed that it does get irritated more than it used to and now it gets really red and blotchy. She sold me on this cleanser when she said that it would get rid of the redness. I only had $20 on me so I couldn't get the other two items...oh well she did give me some samples of the rest of the line to try out.

And since I parked in the Macy's parking lot I had to walk through the store to the exit....which is where the cosmetics counters are...which means that I had to stop! Hey, I'm not made of steel people! :P

So what did I get? The infamous Viva Glam Lady Gaga Lipstick! I have been swooning over this after seeing so many swatches on other blogs! And since I had just spent most of my $20 on the facial cleanser, I had to use like $4 in cash and put the rest on my atm...I am so weak :P

I love her signature!

This is like the perfect shade of Barbie Pink...actually not Barbie, more like cotton candy

Here is a comparison swatch next to Rimmel's Lasting Finish Lipstick in #900 Pink Blush (left), they look very similar, but the Gaga one is a bit more lavenderish(?) on my lips

So there was my haulage for the day....it's probably a good thing I didn't have more money :P

I will do an FOTD with the Gaga lipstick so you can see it on my actual lips.

A few more beauty tips & tricks...

Here are a couple more tips and tricks to help you get the most use out of your products and help you look your best....

1.) Do you get frustrated when you buy lipsticks that end up being too light or frosty? Well instead of throwing it away, try using it as a highlighter.

For example, I just bought this lipstick from NYX but it is too light and frosty to wear on my lips so instead I use it to highlight my cheekbones and browbones

It's the perfect color for a highlighter!

2.) For thicker lashes, try dusting on loose powder before applying your mascara, the powder will thicken the mascara and give you fuller looking lashes (just be careful not to apply too much!)

3.) In case you forget your lipstick at home but you happen to have a blush on hand, try swiping some onto your lips and then top with lip balm, this will give them a nice subtle flush of color

4.) Do any of you use Bag Balm or Vaseline? I highly recommend having a jar of either of these on hand, they have so many uses! Besides being great for dry, flaky skin, you can also use it for chapped lips, under the eyes to moisturize, and to give your makeup a subtle sheen.

Here is an example, on the left is plain eyeshadow, and the right is the bag balm topped with eyeshadow, see how it gives a nice glossy look? For best results, apply the bag balm or vaseline first, then pat on the eyeshadow with a flat stiff brush. You can also dip an angled eyeliner brush into the bag balm and then into the eyeshadow and use it for eyeliner. These techniques can get a bit messy, so practice, practice, practice!

5.) In case you get any flyaways or stray hairs sticking up when you're in public, rub a tiny dab of lotion onto your palms, rub together, and smooth over the stray hairs.

6.) In addition to using lipstick as a highlighter, you can also use it as a cream blush, just dab it onto the apples of your cheeks and blend in for a nice rosy glow. Also try using it on your eyelids as a creamy eyeshadow. These techniques work best with lipsticks that are silky and blendable, don't use ones that are drying, such as long wearing ones.

7.) For a nice subtle glow, try mixing a few drops of highlighter into your foundation before applyhing, this will look more natural than applying highlighter directly. However, you don't want to look like a greaseball, so apply sparingly only to the places you want to highlight, such as your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose

Good luck and have fun with all these tips!

My Current Faves

Hey girls, just thought I would share some of my current makeup faves that I use, some are newer and some i have reviewed already for you

1. Loreal Telescopic Mascara in Carbon Black - read my review here

2. Anastasia Brow Whiz in Brunette - read my review here

3. Hard Candy Plumping Serum Volumizing Lip Gloss - read my review here

4. Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden - I will be doing a review of this soon.

5. Lotree Moisture Skin Primer Pact - this is one of the items my sister sent me from Korea. It's a compact powder that glides on silky smooth and gives my skin a nice matte finish. I like to wear this with a little concealer on the days I don't want to apply foundation.

6. MAC Spring Forecast Blush Ombre in Ripe Peach - read my review here

7. Jane No Show Oil Free Concealer in 03 Light-Medium - Surprisingly, this is one of my favorite concealers. I bought it at Wal Mart (?) for a couple bucks and it works pretty well. It matches my skin and blends in evenly without looking cakey or enhancing any dryness.

8. Maybelline Eyestudio Eyeshadows - I only have two of these (My Icon and Silver Starlet, above) but I am really loving these and am thinking about getting more! They are smooth, pigmented, and blend in easily. I love all the different shades they come in and the fact that you are pretty much getting a couple shadows in one package. I did a review that you can read here

9. Wal Mart High Definition Makeup Brushes - Omg, I am totally in love with these brushes! They are suuper soft and pretty affordable! I take a little longer now to apply my makeup because I spend so much time running them across my face! :P You can check out my review that I did here.

There you go, these are some of the products that I use the most! If anyone has any particular questions about these products, don't hesitate to ask!

P.S. Do you like my new watermark? Yes, no?

Ever since I heard about Hard Candy being at Wal Mart I have not been able to stop looking at the products! Every time I go I always want to pick up something from their line. However, I currently only own four of their products, but will probably be purchasing more in the future.

Here are the products I own:

I actually wasn't planning on doing a product review yet, and if I had been, then there would have been other products I would review first, but seeing how much some of you girls are interested in this product and have done posts about them (see FacesbySarah and AdoreBeauty's posts) I thought I would review these for you :)

Okay, so first of all you'll notice that the packaging is different here than in other places. I'm not sure why companies do that? Anyways, I actually really like this packaging,  it looks really sleek and I like how the cover gives you an indication as to what shade is inside.

NYX Haul Swatches & Reviews!

Okay so here is the long awaited reviews and swatches that I keep promising.

First let's start with the single eyeshadow swatches, the one on the right is Exotic Green, the other is Ocean Frost

So I haven't worn these yet, but I did try on the green one on one eye and it is very pigmented and blends in smoothly. However, it isn't really green at all, it's like a light black with subtle green shimmer, not quite as exotic as it looks in the package. A little disappointed about this, but it's still a good shadow. The Ocean Frost is very light and took a couple times to get it to show up, but it's got a nice simple shimmer, nothing too dramatic

Ok next is the Runway Eyeshadow Palette in Jazz Night. I love these colors, they are very pigmented, however, I kind of had a little trouble getting them to blend...maybe it was just me? But I do love all the colors in this palette, I use the yellow one to highlight the browbone, it's actually more of a pearly white than yellow, even though it looks yellow

Top Row

Bottom Row

These are the lipsticks and gloss I got

Left to right: Brush on Gloss in Killer Lips (i think that's the name?), Peach Love, Clio, & Apollo

I reaallly love the formulas of these lipsticks, and the gloss. They are super creamy and glide on so smoothly, with no effort whatsoever! Very pigmented as well! And the gloss is smooth, not super sticky or anything, which I love. It's a very nude color, I only put on a little bit than blend it in to even it out. The thing I am disappointed in however are the actual shades, they aren't really what I was expecting. They're all very frosty/satiny shades, which I couldn't tell from the website. They are all pretty, I just don't know how well they look on me. And Clio is a very silvery shade, I actually use this as a highlighter! Overall very impressed with the formulas but not the colors I got.

Here is the Concealer in a Jar, I got it in Medium

Unfortunately, this shade is actually too dark for me, and it looks kind of salmony(?) colored. Man, I was disappointed because I really was looking forward to this. It goes on very creamy and blends smoothly, however I did notice that it kind of enhanced any dryness or fine lines I had but not dramatically so. Overall I like this concealer, would have liked it more if I had gotten the right shade, but it's got a great consistency and is pigmented enough to cover problem areas. Be sure to moisturize well before using this if you have dry skin.

I got this just because it looked interesting, it's a face highlighter

I like that it has a pump, very convenient, however, you need to really shake it up before pumping, because the first time I tried pumping it, a big runny mess came out! But once I shook it up it got a little thicker. It's very light and a little goes a looong way

(ew, sorry for my dry skin)

It's very pigmented, so you only need a tiny bit. It's a little sticky however and it doesn't blend too wel, in my opinion.

It's an okay product but I probably won't buy it again

I bought their angled brush and the blush brush, they were a lot smaller than I thought! Here's a comparison shot. I like the angled brush because it allows you to draw really small fine lines, but it's really tiny, I like my brushes bigger. And the blush brush is okay, but it's not as soft as I'd like and it's also too small.

So out of everything I got, I'd have to say my favorites are the concealer and the eyeshadow palette. I will probably get more lipsticks in the future, but only if I am really sure of the colors.

New Product: High Definition Makeup Brushes @ Wal Mart

I don't know how new these brushes are, but I just discovered them for the first time yesterday while I was looking for something else. I was pretty intrigued, Wal Mart now has a whole section dedicated to makeup brushes, even Revlon has a whole line there too. Except they were more expensive, and also the handles were really long, they kind of reminded me of paint brushes....a little too long though.

But these however really caught my eye, due to the color of the bristles, and also the words "High definition" on the label

(sorry the color quality is not very good, i don't know what's up with my camera!)

The package says that they are made to be used with high definition makeup

I got this set which costs about $11.98 I believe. It came with a concealer, foundation, mini powder, and angled blush brush, plus a small zippered mesh travel bag to store them in.

Angled blush brush

Foundation brush

Concealer brush

Mini powder brush (to set your concealer)

I also got this Powder brush, which was separate, I think it cost around $6.98

Here's a close up so you can see the texture

The packaging is also kind of useful, the brushes came in these plastic cases with snap closures, which will be good for storing...stuff. Well I don't know what yet, but I'll think of something :)

So...what do I think of them?

I looove them! They are suuuuper soft! Like ridiculously soft! I couldn't stop from rubbing them across my face, even before I had even used them for my makeup!

As for application, they work great too! The bristles are dense enough to pick up lots of pigments and distribute them evenly and they are not scratchy at all.

I haven't washed them yet so I am not sure if they will shed or not....I hope not because so far I can't find anything wrong with them!

It just goes to show that not everything has to cost an arm and a leg to work good! :)
